General Information — Moscow Black Ribbon Guppy
The Moscow Black Ribbon Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is an elite, highly coveted show strain. Known for its velvety, solid midnight-black coloration covering the entire body, this variation features dramatic, elongated "ribbon" extensions on the lower fins that create a stunning, elegant silhouette as they swim.
Appearance: They exhibit a true, deep matte black color from head to tail. The ribbon variants show distinctively elongated ventral and anal fins that flow elegantly beneath them.
Tank Setup: Guppies do well in a well-planted aquarium of at least 10 gallons. Because ribbon fins are long and delicate, gentle filtration (like a sponge filter) is highly recommended so they aren't caught in strong currents.
Water Conditions: They prefer a pH of 7.0–7.5 and a temperature between 72°F–82°F. Consistent, clean water is key to maintaining their deep black pigmentation and fin health.
Diet: Omnivorous and thrive on a varied diet of high-quality flakes, micro pellets, and regular feedings of live or frozen brine shrimp and daphnia to boost vitality.
Compatibility: Peaceful community fish. Keep them with non-aggressive tankmates and strictly avoid any known fin-nippers that might damage their flowing ribbon extensions.
